I've got the laptop raised up with full airflow under it. I complained to Apple and they are sending me a new one but I suspect it's not specific to this machine. How are is everyone finding their 16's these days?Īre these new laptops trying to run too fast or something? I downloaded Intel Power Gadget but tbh I'm not sure what I'm looking at! :( I've been messing with Logic 10.5 on an old MacBook Air at home and it doesn't kick in with a fan or anything. Days for reinstalling and all that hustle and bad vibes.Īpple is not really taking care of that problem, but they know it. But that was also for nothing, 700 € for a nice "hub" now -) I bought for external Screen the eGPU from Blackmagic, because I thought that the Radeon made the problem. That MBP is a killer machine but loud as hell.
Buy long cables and put it away from your workspace. Mine is standing in my old machine room and at home I build a silent space for it, made of acoustic foam. worksĮveryone around me who bought one has the same problem, a few in the internet are fine with that Mac and they have no problem at all. What helps is turning of the Turboboost and run in clamshell mode. If you can not live with it, and you have chance to give it back - do it and wait for newer models I wouldn't give away that Mac, because for me there is no alternative. MAC TURBO BOOST SWITCHER CATALINA PROĪlthough the behavior's sonically very different, the fact that this happens on the built in audio points to it being a mutation of the same issue that's appeared in each T2 MacBook Pro model since 2018. (Technically 2016 since these were T1 chips which also relied on bridgeOS, and had the same issues.) Basically T2 MacBook's have had issues with the built-in audio since day one.

So much so Apple released a patch for it in August 18, then broke it again with a security update in Nov/Dec 2018. It's gone away, then come back, frustratingly with no end visibly in sight.

My only reason for downloading Catalina was so I could work with the latest 64 bit programs like Corel Painter which are processor intensive. Right now, as I write this message with only Safari opened and nothing else, my temp is 62 degrees.
Now if I open more demanding programs that require heavy processing like Photoshop or video editing like Adobe Premiere, my temps will go as high as 65 WITH FANS RUNNING AT FULL SPEED, and even when the heaviest processing ends, the temps stay well about 60 degrees.! So, obviously my hardware is fine, and no background apps are running. When I run Catalina on the other volume, I get around 60 degrees with the identical basic programs running and nothing running in the background. Even when I run more demand programs like Photoshop and Adobe Premiere, temps may increase but the fans adequately control temps at no higher than 55 degrees max under the heaviest processing but then they come down quickly afterwards. There are no other apps running in the background according to activity manager. When I run High Sierra, my typical temp is around 48 degrees running just basic apps like a browser, email, etc. I have Catalina set up in a separate APFS volume, so I am running Catalina on one volume, and High Sierra on the other. Catalina running my MBP MUCH HOTTER than High Sierra! This issue has been appearing on this community forum now for over two years and there has not been one useful explanation provided.
